At lunchtime, Sharon told me she had a late breakfast. When her lunch came to the table, she looked forlornly at her plate and declared, “I really should not eat this.”
I felt sorry for Sharon. She was ridden with guilt because she had ordered lunch! How often do we do this to ourselves?
We are created to need nourishment on a regular basis. Should we feel guilt or shame for doing what our bodies need us to do?
When we drive our car to the filling station, we do not lament that we feel guilty for filling the tank with petrol, do we? Or if the oil needs to be changed, we simply change it. Do we feel shame because the car needs what it is designed to need to run properly?
The fact of the matter is that our bodies must have quality fresh whole food. Organic would be ideal, if it’s available and affordable. We need a balance of fruits, vegetables, protein, nuts, seeds, and grains. We need a certain amount of good oil to keep our “engines” running at top efficiency. We need quality rest and sleep to refresh and rejuvenate our bodies. We need good, pure, filtered water to drink in order to keep our cells healthy.
What we do not need in terms of foodstuffs are the additives that are all too often put there by food processors. Those additives have nothing whatsoever to do with health and well being; they have everything to do with money and greed.
A few examples of those would be MSG or monosodium glutamate. For people with sensitivity to this, it can be life threatening. The purpose of putting it into every processed food product known to mankind is to make the food taste better and make you literally addicted to it so you will buy more of these products containing MSG. Is it any wonder obesity is an issue in this country?
Another culprit in the processed food arena is the dizzying array of artificial sweeteners. They come in colorful packets and powders designed to lull the consumer into believing that they are “just like sugar.” They pretend to be superior to sugar. The ad campaigns built around these ill conceived products glamorize them and would lead the public to believe that they are harmless. In fact, they are anything but good for you.
People with neurological issues have discovered to their chagrin that “diet” sodas, coffee sweeteners, and food products containing aspartame can leave them suffering with chronic ailments. Many have learned that when the offending products and the aspartame within are eliminated from their diets the strange, debilitating symptoms are eradicated as well! The reason is that aspartame is a waste product from the aluminum industry. It has no place in the human diet because the body has no way of dealing with the toxicity of it. Hence, the body exhibits symptoms in order to alert “the owner” to assist in the detoxification of the body.
Human beings are amazing creatures. Even Scripture reiterates that we are marvelously and wonderfully made. If we KNOW better, we can DO better.
Now that you know how harmful aspartame and MSG is, what steps will you take to help your body become as well as humanly possible?
