The funny thing about living your dreams is that when you finally get to, it can be a bit daunting. Regardless of how long it takes to get there, or how much time/effort/energy one puts into said dreams, once you arrive it's a little like the day after Christmas. All the anticipation and excitement is over...and you're left with all that wrapping paper strewn around the room. Or...maybe not. Maybe instead of that anti-climactic feeling, there is a new sense of anticipation:
okay! bravo! did that. let's move on to the next, shall we? Maybe it's about setting new goals and bringing even more confidence with you from this last achievement. Maybe, just maybe it's about knowing that none of it has to be hard at all.
These are some of the things I've been experiencing of late, having just realized a life-long dream of my own. Along with these meanderings have also come thoughts and old voices of past teachers reminding me that it is not fear of failure that nags at me, it is fear of success. Marianne Williamson said, "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you
not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
And from the very first time I read that, I knew she was speaking a truth that I had forgotten. It is absolutely TRUE! We are here to shine, we are here to share, we are here to live the very best life so that we may add to the greater good of all. It's really that simple. Problem lies in those pesky fears that we face, even when we know they're not 'real'. We fall into that trap like a fly caught in a web. The more we fight, the tighter the web wraps around us. But if we would just relax and allow, the web can no longer hold us.
When dreams comes true, it is as it
should be. Take time to celebrate. And bask. And enjoy this masterpiece you have manifested by your focused attention to the joys of your Life. And then...move on. Set a new 'goal'. See a new dream. Paint it just as mindfully and lovingly as you did the last. Enjoy the process...and remember that for each new dream realized, another will follow...bigger and more beautiful than the last. It's just the nature of things!
