Natural Cures for Depression

Article Summary Life is full of trying times. Don't let it get you down, but stay positive and be constructive.
Neurologically the brain works like a computer in many ways, but because it is an organic mechanism it still functions within the rules of natural biology. It is called neuron reinforcement, every time you think a thought a network of neurons are activated and a pulse of electricity flows down the path of those neurons.

The electro-chemical pulse actually weakens and damages those neurons, but as you rest the body starts to repair and fortify those pathways stronger than they were before. This is useful for two things: first off it shows that sleep plays a huge role in the learning process; secondly, it shows how habitual thinking patterns are formed.

People will say that they have a chemical imbalance, which is to some extent is true, but the fact of the matter is every human brain is going to have varying degrees of different chemical substances in them. Some people are generally going to feel better and others are going to be maybe more nervous, anxious, or depressive.

Different emotions are housed by different areas of the brain. During an experiment done with a monk practicing meditation, researchers found that simply by thinking positive thoughts brain activity moved to a different portion of the brain where it then started creating different chemical and thus different feelings.

This begs the question, how do you put this into practice? Quite simply really, all you have to do is start thinking positively, doing this will be extremely hard for many people but it will help.

A simple activity to do every day when you start feeling down or depressive, is just look at your hand and for each finger count something that you liked about that day. You can either use one or two hands, but the trick to effectiveness is being sincere.

It is going to be just like exercising a muscle, at first it is going to be hard for you to actually find joy in simple things around you, but as you practice it will become easier and easier. This is going to start working those positive pathways and building some positive thought and positive emotions.

Now there are other ways to help create positive emotions and develop good healthy thinking patters. For example, exercise is going to distract your mind from your concerns and it is going to start promoting some serotonin development in the brain, which is the chemical responsible for positive feeling and good emotions.

Also try to have helpful positive influences in your life like friends that are going to be helping you to illuminate the good around you rather than friends that constantly dwell on the bad and negative things in life.
