Your elderly relative could have been living independently in the past. But now that she is debilitated, it is obvious that she could no longer live independently, especially if she would need medical attention. It will be dangerous. There are a number of options that will all be beneficial to the elderly relative.
So what are the options? One is bringing your senior citizen to the home care service. The services can include visiting companions, home duties services and even nursing services. From different home care agencies, you can also require some shopping and transporting services. The different home care facilities today are very flexible. Their services can be personalized and custom-made to the needs of your senior parent.
You can have an initial set-up. But as your elderly parent continues to advance in age, you would not be surprised that she would be weak and would need other services. In case of illness, which is inevitable, you should have a ready plan. When your aged parent starts to experience physical difficulties, she may require another form of support. The worst thing and more difficult to handle is her mental difficulties. There are many factors before you make your decision on how to handle the needs of your old mother.
Basically, you will have two major options. You can have her co-habit with you and your family. Or the other way is to have her stay in a nursing home facility. Before you decide on which option, your elderly needs to undergo care assessment. Of course, it is understandable that you would prefer her to live with you but wait until the assessment is made. Thus, you might want to have her undergo a general medical check-up. Only a doctor can say what level of care is beneficial to your senior. When high level care is recommended, it is not advisable that she is left in your home. It could be medically unsafe. Well, it the assessment is otherwise where low level of care is recommended, you may be able to take her in your custody.
In having her co-habit with you, there still are other considerations. Your old mother had been living independently. Thus, this should also be her life in your home. You will let her do the usual things she does - under her physical capability. Will you provide her with her own room? This is a must as she has been used to having her own where she can move freely and independently. In your home, she is just made to live as independently as if she is in her own house. The difference - there are eyes looking after her.
Depending on the physical and mental condition of your elderly relative, you have options on where to place her. The two most common choices is your own home where you merely hire personal services from a home care facility or you bring her to a nursing home. The decision will be based on the needed care assessment which can only be decided upon by her doctor.
