MRSA stands for Methicilin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. This is a bacterium that causes several diseases that are extremely difficult to cure. The normal bacterium is not so dangerous but the problems come from the fact that it can easily become resistant to almost every antibiotic that is available nowadays. This is why this bacterium causes conditions that are extremely difficult to treat and can easily turn into lethal conditions if not treated on time. The bacterium gets resistant because it reproduces very fast and easily adapts to the changing environment. Open wounds make it even easier for a person to get infected with this infection or to spread it and it is important that wounds are properly cleaned and bandaged.
The MRSA is a contagious illness. It can easily be caught if you just talk to a person that has this condition. It can be transferred through air, through contact or just by using the same dishes or the same towels. That’s one reason why it is so important that this condition has to be diagnosed as fast as possible. Once diagnosed the person has to be quarantined. This will reduce the chance that they would infect other people and the treatments of that person can begin immediately. It is also vital that the doctors first make some tests before start treating the condition. This is due to the fact that if the person is given an antibiotic and the MRSA bacterium is already resistant to it this will make it even stronger and would cause even more problems.
Even though this condition is contagious there are some things we can do to avoid it or at least reduce the chance we can get it. One of these things is washing our hands regularly with antibacterial soap. Another thing we can do is avoid using the same dishes, towels and everything that’s touched along with other people. What’s more, living places should be aired as often as possible so that there are a reduced number of bacteria in the room. The less the bacteria the less the chance of infection is. This infection is known to be widely spread in hospitals so it is vital that the hospital floors and everything else in the rooms is cleaned as often as possible with antibacterial substances.
Another reason why people should do anything in order to reduce the people that get infected is the fact that the more a bacterium lives the more it adapts to everything and the harder it will be for antibiotics to kill this bacterium. If it is not treated well enough we can create a super-bacterium that is resistant to practically every possible chemical substance in the world. So, it can be summed up that this is a condition that is essential not only for those that have it but for the whole human society. That’s why there are so many laboratories all over the world that are trying to do their best to find an antibiotic that would work under any circumstances.
