As the need to work longer hours and the aging process have their effects on our bodies there is a need to exercise more often in order to retain flexibility and youthful strength. This is also true when it comes to eye care. The move in the workforce for longer hours at a computer and straining our eyes reading invoices, repair manuals and other printed literature causes undue strain on the eyes. This strain can cause a problem with being able to focus or control the focus of the eyes, and can be the underlying reason behind stress and tension headaches.

One exercise that can help to relieve eye muscle strain targets the individual's ability to shift their focus. It requires the individual to begin by focusing on their finger. Once a clear focus has been attained, they are then to focus on something that is on the opposite side of the room from them. Once again, they are to attain a clear focus on the item, and then shift their focus back to their finger until it is clear. The individual is required to do ten repetitions of this focus exercise.

Many believe that this type of exercise is good to help strengthen the eye muscles and to help lessen the effects of near or far sightedness. While many eye care specialists do agree that long hours of eye strain at a computer can be harmful for the eyes, the jury is still out as to how effective eye exercise really are.

Relaxing the eyes is one of the best ways that eye strain can be lessened. This technique helps the eyes to feel more refreshes and will actually aid in refining one's vision. The technique is called palming. In performing this one needs to cup their hands and place them entirely over both eyes. The object is to immerse the entire line of vision in darkness.

Once darkness is all that can be seen, the individual should relax and try to view only the blackness. The object of this exercise is to allow tired or strained eyes to reset themselves. In other words it allows for a period of rest for the eyes and this will allow for some of the strain to dissipate. Eye care is a serious matter. The better one cares for their eyes, the longer they will work for the individual. Glasses can be attained to correct some problems with vision, but simple relaxation and stress reducing tactics will prevent vision from getting worse.
