How do you handle anger? Are you the type who would just keep silent and keep it to yourself? Do you curse and put others to shame? Do you blame others for your pitfall? Whatever your answer is, to goal of anger management is to control unpredictable reactions.

Anger is a strong feeling of displeasure. It is perfectly healthy and normal to be angry, however extreme reaction to the feeling is not considered normal. It can lead to a failed relationship, problems in the work place and affects your total well being. The goal of anger management is to handle your reaction in a more positive way, thereby avoiding harms, both to yourself, and to others.

What are the practical ways to handle anger?

Learn to calm yourself. When heighten emotions starts to rush, take time to step back and pause before you react. The very basic is simply by counting one to ten in one full minute. By doing this, you are actually giving yourself a break to lessen the tension.

Try to guided imagery technique, this is done by closing your eyes and transport your imagination to a place or object that will make you happy. Happy thoughts will flood your mind and for awhile this will shift your attention and focus unto something positive. Once you open your eyes, you will look at the present stressor in a much calmer state.

Deep breathing also works in wonder. This relaxes your mind and body. Take in air through your nose and release it through pursed-lip method. Pursed-lip is like blowing a whistle. The more oxygen in your body, the more relaxed you are. The release of a "happy hormone" is also triggered by taking in much oxygen. The "happy hormone" now becomes your equalizer.

Eating 70% dark chocolate and drinking water is also helpful in the release of happy hormones. Although this has to be proved yet by research, but my personal experience proves this practical tip true.

Humming your favorite music is another practical tip to control anger. Music whatever your favorite type helps in calming you down. And when you sing or hum it makes you feel happy.

Lastly, by merely looking at the mirror is also helpful. Try doing this, look at the mirror and smile, when you do this your brain signals the release of endorphin-the every famous happy hormone, and when you smile your aura changes.

There are so many ways to manage your anger, the question now is "Are you willing to help yourself and be in control? Be aware of yourself and start to control your unpredictable reaction.
