Best known as a flavoring for pizza, spaghetti and other Italian dishes, oregano is also a potent fungicide, and can be used to treat a variety of ailments. While eating the herb itself is healthy and tasty, the most powerful fungicidal properties come from the concentrated oil. Sold in most health food stores, oregano essential oil is very potent and must be diluted with another oil to prevent it from causing considerable irritation to the skin. It is quite easy to make an oregano essential oil solution that can be topically applied to athlete’s foot to rid the foot of the fungi.
Preparation:
Only the highest quality oregano essential oil available should be used. Cooking grade oregano oil, for example, is combined with several other chemicals and does not contain the same anti-fungal powers as the pure oil.
The preparation of this solution is rather easy, and only consists of combining the oregano with a carrier oil to dilute its potent powers. Simply combine 2 drops of oregano essential oil with 10 drops of coconut essential oil. The resulting liquid will have powerful anti-fungal capabilities. Next, simply spread the liquid over the afflicted area and the affliction should be completely gone in one or two days.
Benefits:
Not only does this treatment eradicate athlete’s foot, but it also treats a number of different fungal infestations, such as jock itch, ringworm, dandruff, ear fungus and toenail fungus. It treats basically any topical fungi that can infest your body. To treat dandruff, simply rub a little of the solution into the scalp and massage it in. For all other fungal infections, apply directly to the afflicted area twice per day, once a day at the minimum. An easy way to apply the oil to the skin is to dip a cotton swab in the oil and then wipe directly over the afflicted area.
Warnings:
Oregano essential oil is an extremely dangerous chemical, and can cause significant irritation to the skin if directly applied. Keep out of reach of small children and animals. Do not take or use oregano essential oil if you are pregnant, may become pregnant or are breastfeeding. Consult with a medical health professional or licensed herbalist if you are taking or using other medications for athlete’s foot.
