New reports indicate that the number of British pensioners is set to rise by two thirds in the next 20 years. Nearly a quarter of the UK's population will be aged 65 or over by 2031 reports the Daily Express, with the East, East Midlands and Northern Ireland having the highest increase.
Although a rise in people's life expectancy is a positive thing, the increase will put an enormous strain on the NHS and other public services. So they can enjoy their longevity to the full, older people may want to consider what they want in later life now, discussing their options with a family member or friend.
If at any stage in later life your health deteriorates, you will have to decide how to receive your care. Most older people would prefer to stay in their own home where they know their neighbours, are familiar with the local area and have family or friends near by.
