You may not think of it as an art, but to me, it absolutely is! The Art of Shifting. I even like how it sounds. Maybe it's because I like to drive. Or because I think that anyone can change their attitude if they choose. Because, as I'm so fond of saying, "it's all about choices."
"When you change how you look at things, how things look changes." Not rocket science, to be sure. But quite an effective tool for more joyful living. Jesus was said to have spoken the words, "turn the other cheek". The way that message was delivered to me and the way I understand it today are two entirely different things. Rather than accepting whatever harshness might be tossed my way, instead I'm thinking that what he really meant was 'change your perspective. look the other way.'
Interpretation is huge. You give 100 people a book to read and then ask each of them what it held, and you're going to get 100 different responses. It's all about perspective. So if you wanted to change something in your world, what would be required? How would you go about making said changes? Would you do something really drastic, like move to another country? Or maybe you'd divorce your spouse and start 'fresh'. Perhaps you might go on a shopping spree and buy a whole new wardrobe. A new job? The seminary?
Options abound for all of us. Trouble is, most often we think about making changes, but don't DO anything. Thoughts come first. Action comes next. The end results are not nearly as big as the process. I know. You've heard it all before, right? Well, today, instead of going into my usual lengthy pieces with written word, I thought maybe it'd be fun to actually record these offerings so you could have a little giggle along with the 'seed'. I love seeds. And I love to make people laugh. And, while I'm not comic, I am most certainly goofy...which is always good for a laugh or two. So, scroll on down and have a look.
