From the first days I stepped onto this path, I was told by one of my greatest 'gurus' that it would be a lonely path. That this was a path that would not be crowded with others who held these beliefs. That it would be, for all intents and purposes, a path I would 'blaze' alone. Turns out, he was quite right. At least, in the beginning.
The world is full of people who follow the leader. Trail blazers are usually seen as "crazy, out-there, naive, childish", etc. Because, when new ideas are shared, more often than not they're looked upon as unacceptable, simply because they don't follow the 'norm'. Think about it. Ben Franklin. Albert Einstein. Leonardo DaVinci. All were thought to be quite crazy when they proposed their respective theories. The 'discovery' of electricity was thought to be magic. The idea that man could fly? Well, Mr. DaVinci was certainly not held in very high regard. Yet, all of them, and so many more, were the Trail Blazers who walked their paths, in full conviction without apology.
And so it is now. As we, the Human species, find ourselves in yet another evolutionary phase, many still cling to doctrines that just aren't working any more. Fear wraps itself around them, as more and more people attempt to convince them that those days are coming to an end. It's time for us to embrace the new. Let go of those limiting beliefs and move onward to our higher evolution.
It's much easier now to find information about self-healing. And, truth is, it's not 'new'. Thousands of years ago, the shamen and medicine men/women knew that healing was only facilitated by them. The 'patient' was the one who healed himself. The 'patient' had all the power to return to wellness, with a little help by way of information. They knew it was about energy and belief. Even the stories in the bible that tell of Jesus' healings. Jesus never said, "I have healed you." Instead, he said, "you are healed." It was the belief that HE could heal them that did the healing. Those who were 'touched' by his hand believed that he could work such 'miracles', and so, with their belief, they were healed. Yes?
It is my understanding, based on personal experience, that we are absolutely capable of healing ourselves. Even doctors of Western medicine are now confessing the power of the placebo. Many studies have been (and continue to be) done on the effects of placebo. One of the most fascinating studies was one in which doctors had 3 groups with knee damage. In one group, the doctors performed actual surgeries to correct the damage. In the second group, only incisions were made, but nothing further done. In group three, the selected patients were told that surgery was not required, but rather they were given placebo for the problem. When the study ended, the results astonished even the doctors. All three groups healed EXACTLY the same. How could this be? How could it be that no surgery was performed, yet the knees all healed?
It was the belief that corrective surgery was done. In every study done thus far, the results have been the same. The patients, regardless of dis-ease and treatment, all healed in the same manner. Doctors are coming to the same conclusions: it is the mind that has the most effect on our healing. Do they ALL agree? Of course not. And why would they? If everyone believed they could heal themselves, it would put the medical professionals out of work!
Now, before I go further, let me say that I am in no way condemning the medical profession. There are certainly services that help all of us move back to wellness. The point I'm trying to make is this: we DO have the capacity to heal ourselves. But if we don't believe this, we can not. It is with absolute conviction and faith in our capacities that we can 'work miracles'. Call it what you will. But this recovered human knows this to be true. After all the various diagnoses (none of which were the same, by the way), and all the different medications I was prescribed (none of which did a thing to eliminate the malady), I finally came back to what I always believed in the first place. The malady was a result of my own imbalance. The way back to wellness was to regain balance. To rid myself of all the doubt, negativity and fear. To focus my mind, my heart, and my Spirit on what is my true nature: wellness.
I won't say it happened overnight, as it did not. It took me a while to stop vacillating. The old doubts would creep in and I'd have set-backs. Eventually, however, I let those go too. I stayed the course of my beliefs and, using meditation and visualizations, I regained physical wellness. Without drugs. Without surgery. Without rehab. My return to wellness was a direct result of my beliefs. And while I wouldn't try to 'convince' anyone else, I would offer the seed to those who may be leaning in this direction. "If you think you can, you're right. If you think you can't, you're right." The choice is yours.
